Needle case patterns

It was great to see everyone at our December meeting.  And well done!  The auction raised more than $200 for our favourite local charity.

Several people asked about knitting needle cases and Pam has kindly provided a link to Tipnut, a site that has many lovely patterns for needle cases. You can find patterns for several cases here, including patterns for storing circular needles.

Or, you could ask for a new case from Santa.  Here are a few Christmas gift ideas from The Purple Purl on Queen St. East in Toronto.  The Needle Emporium also has a great selection of cases and bags.

Happy holiday knitting (and sewing) everyone!

December Meeting

Hi everyone,

We are having our annual  "de-stashing" auction this Tuesday, December 5th.

Please bring yarn, books needles or other accessories from your stash that you think another knitter may enjoy. Please try to ensure ball-bands are on the yarn or write out a brief description about the yarn. Unsold yarn will be donated to a senior’s home and the proceeds of the auction will go to a charity.

Please bring a sheet of paper with your item written at the top. Members will write their bids on this paper. Make sure you bring a pen for your own bidding!

October meeting

Hello all!

Our next meeting is October 4th at 7pm at the Marlatt Family Centre in Dundas.

This week we're going to review online sources for knitting patterns, supplies and tutorials.  One new source of help that I've added to our "Sites we like to visit" section is Knitting Help. This was a suggestion from Fran and it is indeed a help.  Thanks Fran!

See you all at the meeting.  And Happy Socktober!

Purls of wisdom

I thought I'd share a new site I've come across called The Purl Bee.  It's a knitting shop (in NYC) but they have a great list of free knitting patterns on this site.  If you scroll down the right-hand side of the page you'll see the list. And if you get tired of knitting (as if!) they also have sewing and crochet patterns available.

I have friends who are having a baby and was looking for a quick baby blanket to knit for them.  I love the colour combinations they provide.

If you have any projects or patterns you'd like to share, please bring them to our meetings and I'll take pictures and post them to our blog.  It's always a treat to see what everyone is creating.

See you in October!

A new knitting season ahead!

Hello all.

I hope you had a great summer.  Our new knitting season is only 3 weeks away!  The first meeting of the 2011/12 season will be Tuesday, September 6th at 7pm.  New members are welcome!

This year we have a newly refurbished website. Our plan is to use this site to communicate information about our upcoming meetings, but also as a tool to share tips and deals with guild members.

There are a few big yarn and craft sales starting this week that are worth a visit.

1. The Spinrite Tent Sale runs from August 15-27 in Listowel.  They have amazing deals on Bernat, Patons and Lily yarns.  Details of the sale can be found on their website via the flyer link.  Also, this year they're having a knitting/movie night on August 20, which sounds like fun.  You can watch Eat, Pray, Love under the stars.

2. The Mary Maxim tent sale begins August 18 and runs until Labour Day.  This sale includes lots of yarn, but also many other crafting items.

3. Spun Fibre Arts is having a sale for the entire month of August.  This is a great local shop also worth visiting.

So go forth and build up your stash for the winter!  See you in September.
