How to subscribe to the ATBKG blog

What is the ATBKG blog?

The Around The Bay Knitting Guild blog is very like a web page, but it is somewhat more active: the top part of the blog page changes regularly—we will post new information about meetings, relevant workshops, etc. You can access our blog at http://atbkg.blogspot.ca  However, if you lose this link, you can always go to Google and type in:  around the bay knitting guild.  Google will take you straight to it.

What does “subscribe” mean?

If you subscribe to our blog, you will get regular e-mails every time a new blog is posted.  This means you don’t have to remember to check the blog to see what’s new—your “subscription” will take care of it.

How do I subscribe?
  1. Go to the ATBKG blog: http://atbkg.blogspot.ca
  2. Scroll down until, in the right-hand column, you see the Follow by e-mail window:
  3. Type your e-mail address into the window, and click the submit button, which is on the right of the window.
  4. Once you have done this, you will see a pop-up window from Feedburner, asking that you type in the weird word they show in red, to prove you aren’t a computer, but a real person.
  5. Type the weird word in the little window, and click on the Complete Subscription Request button.
  6. You should (almost immediately) get an e-mail, saying that you recently requested a subscription to Around The Bay Knitting Guild, and asking you to click on the feedburner link to activate your subscription.
  7. Click on the link in that e-mail (The link will look something like: https://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/etcetc)
  8. Then a Feedburner window should pop-up saying: E-mail subscription confirmed!
  9. Once you have done this, you will get an e-mail showing each new blog on the ATBKG blog site.  Enjoy!

Knitting "Linus" blankets

The Mission of Project Linus Canada is to provide a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need of a hug, through the gifts of new, handmade, washable blankets, quilts and afghans, lovingly crafted by volunteer "Blanketeers".  A second part of the Mission is to provide a rewarding and fun service-opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

For more information and details about making blankets, please visit:

If you have any questions or blankets to donate, feel free to email Jo Ann Salci. You can bring your blanket donations to our monthly ATBKG meetings.

New knitting links

Hello all,

I hope you're all coping with the never-ending snow. To distract you from your shoveling and shivering, we've added a couple of new links under our "Sites we like to visit" section (on the right side of this page, scroll down).

We've added a link for the Knitting Museum, which is a compilation of links to museums with knitting collections. We've also added The Textile Museum of Canada, which is in downtown Toronto and a fun place to visit.

So there you have it - two new sites to explore instead of being outside in the snow.

See you on April Fool's Day!

March meeting, no lion!

Our March meeting is scheduled at the Marlatt Funeral Home family centre from  7-9pm.
Be sure to check your email for any last minute updates .

Agenda:
  1. Beading in-service with Louise continues
  2. general Guild show and tell
  3. sock group catch up
  4. Details on the Elora/Wellington Fibres May  23/24

For rest and relaxation in Elora…..and, or……a day learning different dye techniques at Wellington Fibres Farm, from which you take home 3 skeins (50g each) of Donna's yarn from her flock that you have dyed……..

There are one or two spots remaining for the workshop.

Here is the key Drew House B&B info (www.drewhouse.com)

We are welcome to lounge the entire weekend on site, including the gardens; early arrival is ok - may need to relax in gardens if the room is not yet ready. Bring one's own wine, spirits. (A few of us intend to lounge, knit, read, enjoy the bakery, walk the town to gawk at architecture and gardens... hmmm, that's me.)

The property has the Main House with 6 bedrooms; these rooms are already booked by Guild members. The remaining rooms are in the Coach House; there are 6 rooms - each room can sleep two people; more like hotel rooms, each with private bath.

February meeting cancelled

With apologies, our February meeting is cancelled. We've just learned that the space at Marlatt's is unavailable for February and March, so please stay tuned for a March meeting location.

As it turns out, Tuesday is supposed to be a snowy evening so perhaps it's just as well that we stay home to knit, safe and cozy.

See you in March!

A great idea from Ottawa

Earlier this week Ottawa statues were found with scarves draped around their necks.  But this wasn't just any yarn-bombing event. Each scarf included a tag with the following note: ""I am not lost! If you are stuck out in the cold, take this scarf to keep warm!" What a great way to deal with the dreaded Polar Vortex.

Someone placed warm scarves on Monday, January 20, 2014 on each of the statues that make up The Valiants Memorial on Wellington Street.

You can read more about the story in the Ottawa Citizen, and you can see more pictures here.

Yarn bombing and hat donating

Hello everyone!

Need a little fun to lift you from your dreary January blues? It should come as no surprise that I'm going to suggest knitting as a way to help you in your search for good winter cheer.

The Burlington Art Centre is currently undertaking a yarn bombing project with the goal of creating a large cozy from knitted and crocheted squares from members of the community. Once completed, this cozy will rotate around sites in Burlington in Spring 2014.

In order to complete this project, they are asking all those who love to knit and crochet to help make squares for the cozy. You can drop off your squares at The Creative Hub (located off the Brock Lobby - the entrance by the parking lot), or you can create your squares at the Burlington Art Centre Creative Hub. Knitting needles, crochet hooks and yarn are provided.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Leslie Page, Curator of Education at pagel@thebac.ca.

The Burlington Art Centre is located at 1333 Lakeshore Road near Brant Street. You can find their hours and directions by clicking here.

And now on to more knitting! Julie at The Needle Emporium is taking donations of winter hats until the end of the month. If you bring in a knitted or crocheted toque by the end of January you'll get a 10% off  coupon for a future purchase. You can find the details in Julie's newsletter. Mission Services will distribute the hats to those in need.

Stay warm, keep knitting and we'll see you on February 4th!
