October 6th Meeting and Other Updates

The October 6th meeting will feature our guest speaker, Glenna C, who will talk about "Knitting in the Round".  She will have a general "knitting-in-the-round" discussion and will be demonstrating basic practice and tips for:
  • knitting in the round;
  • knitting with double-pointed needles; and,
  • knitting Magic Loop.
Glenna suggests that we bring:
  • at least one set of double-pointed needles;
  • a short circular needle, e.g. 16"; and,
  • if desired, a long circular needle of 36-40" for a Magic Loop Demo.
The needles don't all need to be the same size.  Bring along some yarn in a weight that is appropriate for your needle sizes.

Visit glennaknits.com to learn more about Glenna and her knitting expertise.

Our meeting location is Fortino's at 1579 Main Street West in the 2nd Floor Community Room. Select the Meetings tab above for more details. Remember:  No outside food or drink is allowed in our Fortino's meeting space.  Light refreshments, tea and coffee will be served.

In addition to Glenna's list, here's a handy checklist of what else to bring:
  • Your current knitting project
  • Knitting projects that you would like to show and share
  • $25 in cash or cheque for your membership fees if you haven't already joined
  • $2 door entry fee
  • $10 entry fee for Non-Members

Announcing a Fun Knit-Along!

Announcing a fun, new Knit-Along Group (KAL) featuring Kate Davies' "Sheep Carousel" tea cozy! What a great way to learn steeking on a small project!  The goal is for the project to be completed for the December 1st Guild meeting for voluntary show-and-tell.  Ideally, the KAL will meet 1-2 times to touch-base, knit, and drink tea before a final celebratory meeting.  Meetings may rotate between homes, cafes, or wherever the group chooses.

For members interested in this group, the kick off is Sunday afternoon, October 4th from 1-4 p.m.  Come prepared to cast on.  Refer to the link above for the pattern, material requirements and to purchase the pattern.  It's very important to use yarn that is non-treated (avoid superwash yarn as there are more steps involved in steeking).

Kick-off location is at Cindy's home.  If you are interested, email atbkguild@gmail.com and more details will be forwarded to you!
